Limo Part of a Special Project
It’s always nice to hear a good news story. Recently a non-profit organization in Northeast Wisconsin launched its first major project ‘Friday’ - creating a very special weekend for a single mother and her two kids.
As Kayla Duhuskey got out of school, a stretch Hummer was waiting for her. She had no idea why. The giant limousine then headed to De Pere's Hemlock Creek Elementary School where students formed a human tunnel outside, cheering their lungs out for Kayla's younger brother, Derek. The limousine made one more stop at their mother's workplace. The family of three was then driven away to the Radisson hotel in downtown Green Bay for a weekend together.
The limousine was the beginning of a well thought out weekend distraction while Bay Area Hope Builders fixed the leaky roof of the family's De Pere home for free. Jason Stone of Hope Builders said that they target single mothers, widows, and the elderly and look for whatever needs that they may have. Stone said he met the single mother while she was working her second job at a De Pere sports bar and overheard a conversation about the leaky roof and problems at her house. Besides getting their roof fixed free of charge, the family will be treated to ‘free’ weekend; Everything will be free including meals and even a trip to a Milwaukee Brewers game.
There are many needy families in the community; people who need help, people who can’t afford the luxuries we sometimes take for granted.
